Cutting it at The Cutting Room

Stop press …

For the 3rd year in a row, The Cutting Room has achieved the “5* Client Experience Award” and Vince has asked us to thank everyone who rated them so highly. Only 6 % of salons stay as a 5* salon year-on-year, so Vince and the team are proud to have done this for three years running.

Husband and wife team, Vince and Victoria, founded unisex hair salon The Cutting Room in Knaphill in 2012 with the vision to build a customer-centric salon delivering high-end services at affordable prices. They have created what they feel is a luxurious ‘home-from-home’ for customers that leaves them feeling (and looking) fabulous.

The family business involves Vince and Victoria Nigrelli, their son Vinni and Vince’s mother in law Carol and employs a team of eight, including the four family members.

Specialising in Easilocks hair extensions, Vince told us the Easilocks method is the only hair extension system available today that has been carefully designed to preserve the integrity of your natural hair whilst adding volume and length without having to worry about the long-term effects. ‘The system requires no heat, glue or sewing, and no braiding so there is no stress or damage to your natural hair’ explains Vince.  ‘And as it blends so well with natural hair it is virtually undetectable to the eye and feels just as natural as your own hair.’ The Cutting Room offer a variety of sizes, lengths, colours and textures.

The “Wella Straighten It” service is also a speciality of the salon and, Vince says, ‘is ideal for clients with naturally wavy or bouncy hair who want to have sleek and straight but keep their hair silky soft. It also targets damaged areas of the hair to repair and protect it.’ The result, Vince adds, is ‘manageable hair with styling flexibility and incredible liveliness.’

The Cutting Room also offer wedding packages for perfect nails and hair. ‘All our packages come with a free consultation so together, we’ll create the perfect look for your wedding day’, Vince says. ‘We offer a selection of styles from natural, glamorous, classic or contemporary. Either, curly or straight, smooth and sleek or tousled and sexy, with hair up or down.’

You may not know it, but:

The salon has their own App  “The Cutting Room App” which is free to download on the App Store. It enables clients to book appointments from the comfort of their own hands. It also allows clients to book their next appointment when the salon is out of hours. The App is great as it holds all the clients previous history to make the rebooking even easier for them.

The Knaphillian caught up with Vince and to ask about their business and family life.

The Knaphillian (TK):  Hi Vince, clearly yours yours is very much a family business, so tell us a bit more about you and your family and how everyone is involved in the business.

Vince:  I’m an ambitious hair stylist and winner of the South East Hairdresser of the year award. I run most aspects of the business including the in-house training programme; Victoria runs the ever-important front of house and is a nail specialist; my mother in law helps with the accounts; and our son Vinni helps out on Saturdays when needed. My brother-in-law Mark spent three solid months of hard-graft renovating the premises by hand from the dancewear shop to our lovely, lively and bubbly salon. This was a labour of love for the whole family!

TK:  How did you come to be in business in Knaphill and what makes you want to stay?

Vince:  We were looking for a small unit to start our business and for somewhere local to our house. We had driven past the shop several times and noticed a board up at Cabaret Dancewear. We valued that it was a long running business in the community, it had a quaint feel and accessible parking.

We feel a strong sense of a community here with loyal clients. Even though we have been here seven years we still love the fact that we are still getting busier and busier, and building an even better relationship with our clients seven years down the line.

TK:  Are there any other business people or businesses that inspire you?

Vince:  The people who inspire me are people who think outside the box. We went on a Wella course work shop earlier this year called session work with Dom Capel. We have been in the hair business for a long time but this guy blew me away. He has been doing fashion shoots for the last 15 years, but before getting into hairdressing he was in the Royal Navy. He went from one extreme to another! The passion he has for hairdressing was like no other.

TK:  What are your hopes for 2019?

Vince:  We are looking to expand our business even more and open another salon hopefully by the end of this year.

TK:  What makes your weekend complete?

Vince:  Spending time with my family and dogs, going out for nice long walks and exploring new areas of surrey in the countryside. Relaxing at my allotment after a busy week at work.
